Keeping Your Balance During the Pandemic (Continued)

Cook at Home Instead of Eating Out

We are too busy with work, our kids, or school to cook at home. You often sit back and say eating out is really the best option here, but is it? I’m not judging, I too have been a victim to the delicious smells and wondrous sites myself. Eating out is not good for you because you can’t control the portion size and portion control is a big factor in weight loss. Another factor that you can’t control when eating out is the ingredients and the salt level. One thing the pandemic has done is provided time to examine what we are eating. I have been to some restaurants where people are heavy-handed with the salt in the kitchen, but the food is good so we just eat no matter the ingredients or the salt level. You end up getting a stomach ache which leads to you regretting eating that greasy, salty food. I know it well! We cannot use that as an excuse we can make great and delicious meals at home that might make you not want to eat out again.

You are probably like “did she just say that,” I said what I said. If we want to have a healthy lifestyle we have to make a change, like this post if you agree. There are so many healthy and delicious recipes that you can get online. I subscribe to New York Times Cooking to see what I can whip up quickly, whether it is a main course or dessert. You can do complicated, you can do simple, but just, please do it at home.

Keeping Your Balance During The Pandemic

Photo from Pinterest

Do you often get asked how you are staying afloat during this difficult time? Are you going insane? The answer is an emphatic yes! It is really hard to practically cut off contact from the outside world for a year and if you handled it with ease, I commend you. That’s not easy but we will get back to a sense of normalcy soon but we have to stay home right now. I know it can be boring sitting at home, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some ways that we can keep ourselves occupied and sane while we are waiting to get out!

Work on That Beach Body-Ody-Ody

Summer is just around the corner y’all! I just know when we all get this coronavirus shot we’re going to be bolting like Usain to our computers, trying to plan our summer vacations. You want your body sitting tight and sitting right, in order to do that you have to carve out time in your day and create that workout routine for yourself. It does not have to be a complicated routine, you do not have to come out the gate swinging. It can be a simple 30, 20-minute workout or whatever you feel comfortable with.

My sister recently got a peloton, I use that for all-around strength training but you can use whatever you want. Working out can be fun and there are different exercises that you can do on Youtube with various levels. You can do an exercise with a lot of squats if that’s what you like to do or if you are like “OH…GOD…Please NOOO!” then that’s completely fine. Just go at your own pace and remember to have fun because working out is the best feeling in the world! Happy sweating!

How To Pursue Your Ambition in Life

Do you have a dream, an inspiration that you want to chase in life? Do you want to wake up in the morning and say “I can’t believe this is what I get to do every day”? Then this is for you! We can all agree that having ambitions/goals are necessary to make the most out of life. It is hard to figure out what you want to do in life, I know, you guys are definitely not alone. My advice is to try different things and see what works for you, you will never know until you try.

Can you give me some tips?

Write out your Goals/ Make A Vision Board!

You are probably tired of hearing the same thing over and over, at the start of a new year you hear “make sure to write out your goals, let’s write out what we want to achieve” you keep getting fed the same thing over and over again I get it. Writing out your goals really helps you to imagine and bring to life all that you want to get done. Speaking of imagining what you want out of life, vision boards do a great job of that as well. They visualize your dreams so that you can eventually bring them to a reality, which is what we all want right? I know I do.

Take risks!

I know that might seem scary, you might be saying to yourself “I’m not a big risk-taker!” I’m not either, but do not worry it’s not that kind of risk. I’m talking about goal-related risks that entail trying different activities to see what suits you, and determining what to pursue. Yes, trying different activities can be quite a tedious task, but if that’s what you have to do to know what career you want to pursue then that’s what you have to do. You have to be ambitious in life ya know, get after it!. Taking risks can be both daunting and nerve-wracking, but if you’re ambitious enough it can pay off. Come on take a risk, get out of your comfort zone!

Eliminate Negativity

I cannot stress this enough eliminating negativity is huge! We probably come in contact with negativity on a daily basis, whether it is negative energy, a negative person, or whatever. We need to get rid of the negativity because it can lead us to possibly veer away from our goals. Negativity can be evident within ourselves as well “we are our worst enemy”. That is so true, we love to talk down to ourselves, I don’t know why? We like to compare ourselves to other people, I do it too. We constantly compare ourselves to people we know, people on Instagram. Stop worrying about what they are doing and just do you. You are your biggest competitor in life, go after what you want and don’t worry about anybody else.

Ambition is a key factor, you can’t let people tell you what you can and can’t do in life. You are not living for anybody except yourself. Working toward your goal can be a long and arduous process but it’s not a sprint it’s a marathon. “You’ve got dreams and you got the right to chase em”. Tell me what’s your ambition in life?

Photo From Pinterest

Calling all of my singles, Valentine’s Day is coming up! Don’t have an extra special someone on this oh so special occasion, that is completely okay! Now, I know sometimes single people get down in the dumps during this time BUT, you don’t need a significant other to celebrate this day.  All you need is LOVE, SELF-LOVE. Let’s transform our thinking, picture Valentine’s Day as a day to do whatever you want, treat yo self.  Now, now, I do realize that we are in a pandemic and maybe we are not able to do the things that we typically would otherwise. I’m here to encourage you, living in quarantine does not mean love is canceled.

Valentine’s Self-Care ideas

  1. Buy yourself some chocolate, which is the best way to get over being single if I do say so myself
  2. Send yourself some flowers
  3. Write yourself a love letter-write about what you love about yourself
  4. Plan a solo movie night, maybe a not so romantic comedy!
  5. Have a zoom session with your besties, a Galentine’s Day if you will, and pamper yourselves
  6. Spend the day baking- find some new recipes that you would like to try out

Happy self-love day, babe!

Why Decluttering your Room is so Rewarding

Photo From Pinterest

The decluttering process can be exhausting and may take a few days to accomplish but once you get it done it can be very fulfilling! Your room is your personal space where you go to relax, unwind, and just think about everything that is going on around you. You want your room to be clean and organized because negative energy is created when your space is unkempt.

Why is cleaning your room so important?

Cleaning your room can seem like a very mundane task, trust me, several studies show that cleaning your room can help tidy your brain. Keeping clutter out of your room can help organize your thoughts as well. My sister recently decluttered her room, granted it took her a while, but after she did she felt a sense of relief and accomplishment. Now all she can talk about is buying the next item to help organize her room. By cleaning your room you are allowing positive energy to flow through the atmosphere which can eventually rub off on you! I think we all want that, right?

5 Reasons Why You Should Clean Your Room:

  1. Your thoughts will be organized
  2. You won’t have to feel embarrassed about bringing people into your room anymore
  3. Keeping a tidy room can improve your stress levels
  4. You can clearly examine the resources that you have
  5. It can save you so much time, especially in the morning

Doing your laundry and getting rid of old clothes can be quite exciting if you think about it. It’s like you are getting rid of the old you, the you that was unorganized. Why wait for spring to start when you can start cleaning right now, no time like the present. I challenge all of you to pick a weekend, hunker down and declutter your space. You’ll be thankful that you did!

How To Relax When You Are Feeling Stressed

Photo From Pinterest

We all get stressed out whether it’s the stress of our job or school. I even get stressed having to deal with all of my classes. My point is we all get stressed from time to time. We have to deal with it before the stress gets to be too much.

How do we take care of ourselves you might ask?

There are multiple ways that you can deal with stress but the most important way is to relax. There are so many ways to unwind, such as: engaging in your favorite hobby like listening to music, having a warm bath, or exercising. Relaxation is very important for your mental health and it can help avoid becoming overwhelmed with life’s demands. Taking a break is not only important for your body it’s important for your mind too. Too much stress can start to affect your health.

Why is relaxation important?

Several studies show that chronic stress can impair brain function in multiple ways. It can kill brain cells and reduce your brain size. Stress can also make you vulnerable to illness and disease. If that information doesn’t influence you to take a break I don’t know what will. It has been proven that stress can also hurt your memory. Spending too much time working can hinder your ability to recall information. It is clear that relaxation is a key part of managing stress.

How To Make The Most out of Your Mornings

Photo from Pinterest

Mornings represent sacred time that we like to have to ourselves. A time where we can sit and reflect on our dreams that occurred the night before. A perfect and productive morning can really set the tone for your whole day. You want to make sure that you are making the most of your mornings. To do this, waking up early, is not required, although it does help.

There are ways that you can get up whenever you want and still make the most out of your morning, you just have to get up and be productive. You can’t sit in your bed all day because if you do that you are getting nothing accomplished. You can get a lot done in the morning without any disturbances, trust me. If you write out what you have to get done for that day then you can just refer back to that checklist and you won’t feel so stressed throughout the day. Yes, mornings are a crucial time where you can knock out some work but do not forget to just breathe. Enjoy that time for yourself, do what will stimulate your mind, body, and soul! Whether you like to get up and write your goals or just journal, go for a walk, or if you like to take the spiritual approach and engage in prayer or devotion.

Helpful Tips

  1. Go for a walk- This can be a great way to get your body moving. Plus you already got your workout out of the way.
  2. Perfect your coffee routine- If you like making coffee like I do you will love this one. My sister and I get up early in the morning and have the iced coffee that we have perfected.

Photo from Pinterest

  1. Eat a real breakfast- Say goodbye to having that same granola bar that you eat before you go to work or class. Treat yourself to a delicious meal
  2. Do not skimp on your skincare- Since you have extra time in the morning you can really take care of your skin and give it the proper TLC it deserves
  3. Take your time getting ready- Being rushed is a thing of the past, you have more time to take your shower, brush your teeth, or whatever else you need to do to get ready

How To Organize Your Time

Photo From Google Images

Time is something I know we don’t have a lot of. We keep saying how there are not enough hours in the day to do all that we need to do. We don’t need more time, we just need better time management.

What is time management?

Time management is where you separate what you absolutely have to get done from what you’d like to do. You can manage your time better by doing these various tasks

  • Planning ahead
  • Removing non-essential tasks
  • Using an online calendar
  • Setting a deadline for when to complete your specified task
  • Limiting your phone time

Follow the 80-20 rule, which suggests that 80% of results come from 20% of the effort you put in.

For more information on the 80-20 rule and for more time management tips go to this website https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnrampton/2018/05/01/manipulate-time-with-these-powerful-20-time-management-tips/?sh=401490e757ab. I encourage you to do so, it really helps!

I know that limiting your phone time can be hard, believe it or not most of our time is spent on our phones. That time is most likely spent on miscellaneous apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok. I know we have important emails that we have to check and that’s fine go ahead and check them. After you check your emails, put your phone down and get to work. You would be amazed at what you can do if spent as much time on your work as you do on your phone. You will say it’s only this time instead of oh it’s that late, I gotta get to work. I challenge everybody reading this to manage your time better. We have all heard the saying “time is money”, so let’s get this money!
